Sabras Radio continue to support the Local NHS

Sabras Radio has always been very active in promoting awareness of health matters as part of its service to the community. Over the years, Sabras has won many awards and commendations for this public service, which it has generally provided on a non-commercial basis.

In recent times, we have been very proud to have established a “House Doctor” concept with a resident doctor providing invaluable health tips and generating greater awareness of a range of health matters specific to our audience every week on Monday morning between 11-12. Delivering these messages in appropriate vernaculars has been a major success, ensuring maximum reach into the local community. We are proud to have done more than 215 shows over last five years.

The “House Doctor” is Dr Rajiv Wadhwa- a local GP. He is well known within the medical fraternity in Leicester and beyond. Rajiv has very recently completed five years of this valuable voluntary service with Sabras Radio, and we are very grateful for this.

We have evidenced that these programs have been especially helpful in raising awareness about Diabetes in Asian Community in East Midlands. More recently, the relentless work done during the Covid Pandemic to send the Public Health messages and to increase the uptake of Covid Vaccination has been very well received and has been effective. We have testimonials from our listeners, and also from various doctors and nurses where patients have made positive changes to improve their health outcomes after listening to these shows.

To express our gratitude and to mark the fifth anniversary, we held a celebratory event at Radio House on 24 November 2021 and invited a few selected guests from Health Community, Public Leaders and Sabras listeners.
