Five charged with murder after man dies in collision at County Durham petrol station

Five people have been charged with murder after a man was killed in a collision at a petrol station, police have said.

Daniel Ambler, 23, died at the scene at the Asda Express service station in Seaham, County Durham, on the afternoon of Thursday 15 January.

Durham Constabulary launched a murder investigation and now says five people have been charged.

Barry Anderson, 51, Ashton Anderson, 19, and Barry Logan Anderson, 18, have been charged with murder and violent disorder.

Two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named due to their age, have also been charged with murder and violent disorder

All five are due to appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Woollett of Durham Constabulary said: "While there will be an increased police presence as the investigation continues, I can reassure the community of Seaham that we believe this was an isolated incident, and we have no information to suggest any wider risk to the public.

"Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Daniel Ambler."

Mr Ambler's family said that his death "will leave a huge hole in our hearts forever" and paid tribute to a "kind-hearted soul".

"Daniel was a much-loved son and brother, and his death will leave a huge hole in our hearts forever.

"He had a great sense of humour, was popular among friends, and was able to bring laughter to any situation.

"Our family is devastated, but we will remember Daniel for being the kind-hearted soul that he was."

The force has appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them.
